I tried everything I could think of. I installed Optifine and configured every setting to fastest and max/smooth FPS, including performance related options like method of chunk loading, etc. I even set render distance to tiny. I used MultiMC to start MC with 350 MB of memory (as adviced by the Optifine mod page). I installed the latest Java 7 updates and updated my LWJGL as well. I opened task manager and ended any background programs that I deemed unecessary, and even set priority level for Java.exe to "Higher". All of this did make a noticeable difference, but, alas, it had yet to get rid of the unbearable lag spikes. Then, I noticed that a lot of the performance options in Optifine were for local worlds and single CPUs. So I went back to the task manager and set the affinity for Java.exe to a single core (was previously two cores). I got excited because the game started running very smoothly at 60+ FPS with no hiccups or spikes for about a half hour and then the horrible lag returned. Now, no matter what I do or what option I tweak, the lag is always there. Died to the same goddamn skeleton multiple times because every second or every action I take, FPS dips to 1-2 before going back up to 60+. Help, please. I'm at a loss here.
My PC (laptop) specs are:
Model: Dell XPS M1530
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 @ 2.40 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
Direct X: 11
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
GPU Memory: ~1.7 GB (1776 MB)
I can run Half Life 2 at high settings and Crysis at mid-high range settings. I don't understand what's making Minecraft so difficult for my computer to run. I heard that Java is a resource hog. Could the simple fact that the game is powered by Java be what's causing my proglems with the game??
it's persistent... it's always there. it's like 50 fps for a few minutes, sometimes seconds, then it drops to 1 fps for a few seconds, then it's back to normal, and it does this over and over again
