So I hadn't played minecraft in a little while but when I came back and updated my screen goes black and I can't exit the program and have to shut down my computer. I am on a macbook pro and never had any problems running minecraft before. Only support topics I could find had to deal with the black screen on login but my occurs during playing. I have tried multiple times and the crash occurs at random during gameplay. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice but still no success. Any help or links to a topic that has some answers would be appreciated.

Can you provide some info about your system? Be sure to include graphics card/GPU you have and also OS & Java versions you're running.

Graphics card has 2 listed intel hd graphics built in with 288 MB of VRAM and NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with 256 MB of VRAM.
As for my operating system I have Leopard not Snow leopard and have run all system updates my computer has allowed.
Java i have Java SE 6 version 1.6.0_43-b01-447.

I have fully updated my computer and checked through apple for java updates and ran them. I have also unistalled and then reinstalled minecraft and forced it to update and it still doesnt run properly.

The first thing I recommend you try is updating LWJGL.

So I did the LWJGL update and minecraft started crashing on the login instead of during the game, so i reinstalled and it went back to the old issue. I was fed up and just wanted to play so i tried playing through my browser and it still crashes the same exact way. So I have pretty much given up hope at this point. Thanks for trying guys.

You have Leopard installed, which is Mac OS 10.5, so I'm assuming you're bitten by a known issue with MC 1.5 and Mac OS 10.5. See this tweet:

Bottom line, Mojang is aware of this and expects to address it in the next snapshot or two, this week or next. FWIW, it has to to with the version of OpenGL, which is a set of graphics libraries, that are installed with Mac OS 10.5. Downgrade to 1.4.7 if you can find a link or have a backup copy.

Is there any reason you are still running 10.5? I'm a Mac technician IRL and have to say 10.6 is probably the leanest, fastest version of Mac OS X on Intel IMHO. I've got both my kids' Macs running 10.6 and they have great stability with Minecraft. Apple doesn't sell that through retail anymore but you can call their online store and order a copy, $29.99 + shipping IIRC. Just a thought; I understand you may have old software that prevents you from upgrading.

When i pull up my info it says Mac OSX 10.6.8, My brother in-law is also a Mac technician so if there is anything I need I typically go to him.

If it's crashing java should be giving you a crash log. If so, can you please post one.
