I've seen the occasional missing chunks every now and then, but they've always fixed themselves after a moment of two. Earlier today, my laptop decided to crash while I was playing Minecraft and really messed my world up. I'm playing the current version of Minecraft, 1.4.7.
I have a total of 4 chunks missing in my world, all adjacent. It's just a huge black hole down to the void. Unfortunately these chunks also contained some of my underground tunnels and house. My first thought was to simply use the current MCEdit, 0.1.6, on an older backup of the world to copy and paste the old chunks back into my current version. Seemed simple enough.
For some reason, this does not seem to be working. What is odd is that I can copy and paste the chunks just fine in MCEdit. I open the old world, copy the chunks, open the newer world, paste them in the correct spot, then save. I then close MCEdit and fire up Minecraft. When I open the newer world in Minecraft, it appears the same as it did before I did any editing. There is still a gaping hole.
To make matters even worse, a creeper decided to blow me into the missing chunk, so now I'm just endlessly falling whenever I load up the world. When I go back to MCEdit, everything looks just like how I last viewed it in MCEdit. I even tried moving my player position in MCEdit to somewhere outside of the missing chunk, but not even this is reflected when I open Minecraft back up.
UPDATE: After messing around for a while, I found that I was changing the wrong player position on MCEdit. I was changing my online character name position instead of Player. I am playing offline and didn't realize there was a difference. I was able to escape from the hole, but still no change to the scenery with MCEdit's changes (except when viewing it in MCEdit).

Any thoughts?
