Earlier today I was playing on tiny render distance and still getting at best 25 fps. I asked the people in my game what they were running and one guy said 60. How can I increase fps to something good like that with at least a normal render distance?
Can anyone help?

1. Install Optifine
2. Change your graphics to Fast
3. Turn AdvancedOpenGL to off.
4. Close all other applications.
5. Make sure your Java is completely up to date.
You also may just be running a slow computer. The only permanent way to fix that is to buy a new computer. I highly recommend a gaming computer over a regular laptop for MC, however, since there are different types of gaming computers, it all depends on your personal preference, your internet, and what you are looking for in a gaming computer.
25-30 is the an average FPS for an unmoded MC Game. Adding Optifine will add 30 or so frames to that, and adding MC Patcher would have bout 10 more. If you dont feel safe about modding yer MC, just close out all external windows, and delete old files on your comp to free up space and memory. Or get a new comp, but thats quite drastic.
I agree with the people here, minecraft without optifine on my computer is really laggy, and I just got this computer last year!
My father's computer he got several years ago and has WAY more stuff on it, but minecraft runs perfectly on his, so, optifine is a great FPS increaser.

~I was gonna shear that mooshroom...but I killed it instead...~
FPS is determined by your computer, the other people would get better FPS because they have more powerful computers than you.
Could you please post your PC's specs.
If you are on a laptop, it could the intergrated graphics that is bringing your FPS down. Optifine should add a few more frames to it, but it really all comes down to how good your computer is...
As said Optifine can help - but you really need to set it up properly, or it may not help at all. Based on how many cores and other settings, it can really speed up your playing experience.
If you have had minecraft for awhile, try updating your sound files as well. And try to limit which processes are going besides minecraft, and give minecraft priority.
1. Change all video settings to their lowest
2. Install the mod OptiFine
3. Update graphics drivers
4. Use Advanced SystemCare to clean out all the crap in your computer
5. Turn Advanced OpenGL off/on... I turned it off and it doubled my FPS. Could help if it's on, though.
6. Try running Minecraft fullscreen. This helped for me, for some reason.
