A couple of weeks ago I purchased an MSI that was around $1,300. It runs on windows 8 and does have java 64 installed. I mainly use it for minecraft, and watching youtube. It is so nice of a computer that I have been able to run Minecraft on the best settings (far render distance, particles on all, smooth lighting, fancy graphics) and at max fps it would stay around 125. I normally set it to balanced and got around 60-70. Just last week, t started to dip down to around 20-30 fps. So, I've been turning smooth lighting off and it will go up to 125. But, I really like the best settings. I want to know if I can recover the frame rate I once had. This has been happening ever since the server I play on upgraded to the snapshot (13w06a). I do not have much downloaded on my computer, except Fraps, but I've had that pretty much since I got this computer and I don't see why it should affect the frames when it is not in use. I want to know if there may be any other reasons for frame loss.
I can answer more questions if you have any.
I appreciate all answers, thanks for your help in advance!
Well when you say max fps 125 and balanced 60-70, Max fps makes it so you can keep putting as much frames as it can go but when you put it at balanced it caps it at 60-70.
Lighting was tweaked but didn't have the greatest optimization. Turning off smooth lighting will fix it like you figured out. Getting 7a should boost your FPS a bit, they optimized it a bit more.

If you want your old FPS back, revert to 1.4.7
