I recently upgraded to Windows 8 after using the Win8 consumer preview for most of the last year. I had no issue running Minecraft on the consumer preview version, but after the upgrade I am unable to play at all. I have a Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1) card. When attempting to start Minecraft I get this:
Bad video card drivers!
-----------------------
Minecraft was unable to start because it failed to find an accelerated OpenGL mode.
This can usually be fixed by updating the video card drivers.

I'm not an idiot, but all the "fixes" I've found require me to do things to my computer that I am not qualified, nor comfortable enough, to do. I miss playing on PC, XBOX 360 edition just isn't the same. Please help!
Updating video card drivers does not require you to do stuff that is any way detrimental to your computer, because it does it all for you. Intel, eh, wow that is some weak sauce GPU. Try this, if it doesn't work...well...I'm even surprised you can run Windows 8 with that GPU.
This is my backup laptop. My beautiful old Asus died months ago and I can't afford to replace her yet, so I deal with this HP. I incorrectly assumed that if something worked on the Win8 consumer preview it would work on the full version. However, Win8 runs beautifully, as does everything else, even better than Win7.
I tried to go and roll back the driver, but that option is grayed out.
I'll explore the links you've supplied and let you know what results.
Can these companies not communicate in conversational English? I tried downloading the drivers for Win7 and installing, but clearly I'm just as clueless as a monkey with a square peg and a dozen round holes.

Drivers labelled "(Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1)" never (?) have Open GL support, which is what Minecraft requires.
See: Intel has no plans to release Windows 8 graphics drivers for the following older Intel graphics controllers.

Retired StaffTry these drivers; ignore the fact that it says Win7.
