Alright, so today i downloaded the faithful 32x32 texture pack, then i downloaded MCpatcher to fix up the random fire on some blocks, etc. I followed the instructions on the texture pack's page, which said to go to options and change all the possible settings except for one that I can't remember to "default", like water and lava. So i did that, then ran minecraft and logged in. After I hit login, all i got was a black screen. And I left it like that for a few minutes to see if it would load, and I got nothing. So, i got rid of the texture pack and deleted all trace of MCpatcher on my mac, then rebooted minecraft and logged in, just to get another black screen. Anyone know how to fix this? please respond!
So, you're saying that I should try reinstalling faithful and then get this optifine thing, and i should be able to actually play minecraft again? and if so, what version of optifine am i even supposed to get, and what settings do i change?
the version of optifine depends on your system, the page i linked explains what each version does.
settings wise i think you can just leave it at default as your just using the hd patch part of it, unless you want to change settings too.
to remove the mcpatcher stuff just do a force update first so you get a clean minecraft.jar file

It's caused by not setting their animations to "Dynamic" or "Animated".
If you wish, reuse mcpatcher and set it to this:
