Java socket exception?

Please help me out if you can. I'm a newer player to minecraft and everything was fine until this evening. I was disconnected from my server with the following error message:

Connection Lost
Internal Exception: java.net.SocketException: Software caused connection abort: recv failed.

I have tried reinstalling my Java (the newest version) to no avail. I even forced an update of my MC client.

When I play the game, I get into it and then I lag forever before it drops me with the above message. Can someone please help?
