I found similar threads about this but most are a couple years old and so the solutions are fairly outdated (keep in mind, I still tried them or it's stuff I already do).
My system is more than up to snuff to play minecraft:
CPU: AMD A10 5800k 3.8ghz
RAM: 8GB 1600mhz
GPU: GTX 660 FTW 2gb
Running nvidia beta drivers 313.96
So whenever I'm playing minecraft, it'll freeze up briefly, screen will go black, then come back with an error saying "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." (From eventviewer)
This will actually say that something along the lines of "Nvidia kernel has stopped responding an successfully recovered". I'm not sure if the variation means anything.
After this happens, minecraft is entirely frozen and I have to kill the process in task manager. All my drivers are up to date and the card is barely a week old.
