I am new to Minecraft and and am running 1.4.7 vanilla. I really would like to add texture packs and mods but cannot seem to successfuly do it. Do I need to install/run any other type of program first in order to get the texture packs to work?
I tried to find a basic tutorial on this but could not find one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.I should add that I tried to load a texture pack which stated the requirement to download mcpatcher-2.4.4.exe, which I did. Re-started Minecraft and just got a black screen. I am sure I am just suffering from "NOOBitis".

Did you use MCPatcher to patch it or did you just download it? Otherwise no, you don't need to download anything else.

Thank you. I ran MCPatcher and when I re-started Minecraft I got the black screen. As soon as I "Unpatched" it Minecraft started and ran fine.
