So I was trying to run minecraft on my new windows 8 computer, and it wont connect to minecraft.net. I have wifi, a bought account, and everythings great. But it still wont work. If I click "play offline" there's just a bunch of jumbled text with the loading screen. Java is fully updated as well.

This is not true. I've had friends that run Minecraft on Win8 fine.
To the thread author, it is most likely that something is preventing Java or the launcher from reaching the Minecraft servers. Temporarily disable your antivirus program or your firewall and see if the problem still persists.
