ok so recently i switched from windows to ubuntu, on windows i got 140 average on fancy and far, on flat maps close too 200, but when i went to ubunutu 12.0.04 my fps is a average of 60 on fast and far, and 30 on fancy and far, i have not tried optifine yet, and dont want to have to wait to get good fps till it updates,
Any idea on how to get it better ive tried using FTB and Tekkit to allocate more ram but it seems to do nothing,
Other maybe useful info:
No matter how much my fps drops in game i can still do w/e i want on my desktop and not be bothered by the lag
listening to music does nothing to my fps
having a billion things open does not harm my fps (unless its all like wow)
most games well all games have fps of 30 and thats fine to run with once u get to 60 you wont see any improvement of gameplay . anything above 60 is just a waste and just heats up your GPU. dont go with optifine if youre worried about fps issues chooose something smaller and alot easier to use MCpatcher . i just recently tried both and optifine eats up your CPU and destroys fps. also u can allocate more ram to your regular launcher without the need of FTB or tekkit with a terminal command. not to sure on what the requirements are to do it but you can
i do thank you for your advice and really appreciate it but thats not the answer im looking for, as i already knew must of what you said, also i would like to point out optifine can either increase performance and decrease it, depending on the settings you set it too, so saying that it only decreases it means that you must not have set the right settings, as i was able to reach over 60 fps with it, on a machine that would by default give me 10fps
If you read any of the bellow its not cause of you im just in a bad mood today(only reason i left them was cause im lazy to highlight them and delete)

me just pointing something out
also i would like to state that as i said my specs you should of known from how i said my specs that i know a lot about machines as i mentioned the exact brand, speed, and even that the motherboard only took amd, heck i was about to add the motherboards stuff too, i could give you enough info on my machine to rebuild it (if you knew how to)
Mainly random stuff (was the reply i was gonna send)
allocating more ram does not do anything thats noticeable(i think i stated that already), and im not worried about cpu or gpu, as my current gpu is only temp so i can use my machine, and my cpu is barely getting any work at all as it stands, so make it work more is not gonna kill my machine (literally all i do on my computer is play games, watch anime, and browse the web and usually not all at once)
if i had to estimate how much im actually using of my specks i would say this
Graphics: 50-75%
CPU: 20-50%
Ram: 5-6GB out of 12GB
also the reason i would like to have over a 100 is this, you may not believe me when i say this but, i notice a improvement when the fps goes from 60 to 80, not much but i do see it, anything bellow 45 drives me bonkers if i have seen it above 60
this spoiler is just me ranting about linux and windows so unless your really curious you can ignore it
WINDOWS GOT BETTER FPS THEN LINUX, when it should be the opposite the computer has not changed, not even 1 led, so why is it Linux that should be faster then windows is running slower then it, would just go back to windows.. >.> but apparently my harddrive is "... In the wrong [something] format.." and no matter what i do it wont change, whether its changing the filesystem to ntfs or formating it using the windows installation cd, only thing i have not tried is freezing it, but im not gonna do that, heck i even made a different partition with ntfs as its base and tried to format that partition and it did not work, now i just use that partition to put crap on that i need to keep safe, like resume, stuff like that
Sorry for ranting just drives me nuts how everyone bragged on how fast Linux was, and how top notch it was, when actually all it does is even out the ram to the running processes and keeps the majority of it to the os, that makes it seem faster but all its doing is making it so if you game crashes your entire machine does not, that which is good thing... if you were developing a game and test things constantly, that made it crash but other than that i find that all the "ow i love its it so fast" is a bunch of bs

yes it can only because it gives all those other options to turn of pretty much EVERYTHING in your game and then enhance it as well only if your game can handle the increase. i tried optifine and turned everything off and still noticed i wasnt getting the fps i liked or was used to. maybe because i also had SEUS installed (wasnt turned on) and GLSL shaders turned off as well. and seen the fps still not as high as id like it to be. point of what i was trying to say was MCpatcher does do ALMOST the same thing as optifine it makes your game look pretty with HD stuff. what ive noticed when i put on MCpatcher it was ALOT better. you could / should try that out as well if youre wanting HD textures better grass skys and connected textures more mobs even.was just saying there is an alternative to getting HD stuff into your minecraft. its not like your machine needs help with speeding up your game but it does seems theres something wrong with optifine that making it be as slow as it is

Have you checked out this guide http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/158692-howto-optimize-minecraft-for-linux/.
It helped me a lot.
I'm just saying let's remove all the warning labels and let the problem sort itself out.
