Hello, everyone. Lately, we noticed that our LAN functions aren't working. We aren't sure what is wrong. It says that it is open to LAN, but it won't appear on the Multiplayer selection screen. We shrugged that off, because we have seen that error before, and we attempted to use direct connect to join LAN worlds which normally resolves the issue. That didn't work either. It does not matter which computer it opens on, the other can't connect to it.
I am going to stop you right now. There are NO firewall issues. Not one thing concerning firewalls is amiss. Do not comment anything relating to firewalls. On similar posts, everyone says it is because of the firewall, and leaves it at that. I am sure you can relate... We are looking for anything in Minecraft that could have caused this, since it has only been failing since the last update.
its a common issue now with this update. easiest thing to do is to just revert to and old patch and just wait for the next update. or you could always learn to set up a server its pretty easy. also idk if you know this but minecraft backs up all jars when updated in the .minecraft folder with version numbers so you should see 1.4.6 and yur old 1.4.5 in there as well. just rename it
i have this same problem. but i reverted both computers to 1.4.7 and things did not change. i will check the fire walls on the computers though.
anyone have a guide on how to do this with out admin rights on the computer?
I was having this trouble too,and I found the solution!
I'm pretty sure you've heard this answer A LOT! but try it..
On windows 7.. click the start button (bottom left) and type in firewall then click on 'Allow a program through windows firewall'
click on the button that says 'change settings' with the sheil icon next to it.. then scroll down slowly and tick 'Java(TM) Platform SE Binary'
and anything else that might have to do with Minecraft. Do this for both the computers.. Hope this helps someone.

Bah. Something seems to be broken. I'm only seeing LAN games announced out one network interface. If they screwed that up then all bets are off.
