I'm trying to put the Minecraft launcher (A freshly downloaded one as well) and my .minecraft folder on a flash drive. For whatever reason, it won't work. Like, i get them on the drive, but then cant launch the launcher. Any idea what to do?

Why do you need your whole .minecraft folder on a flash drive anyway?
Not sure what would cause this, but you could try again with just your saves folder and .bin file and re-download Minecraft on the other Computer, that should replicate moving your entire .minecraft. And you don't even really need your .bin, only if you have mods installed you want to transfer.
What are you moving from/to? Moving between 2 different OP systems (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.) Would cause problems. and if you just want all that on a flash drive as a backup, again, read the upper paragraph, you don't need it all.

I'm wanting it all because i have mods, and so to avoid installing anything on the computer im using it on.
Im using it for school, cuz i dont have anything else to do in IBCA.

Not sure why the launch doesn't work, but if you're transferring the game to a new computer, just download the game again. After that, launch the game once and replace the minecraft folder with the one on the drive.
*EDIT* Looked at above reply... you'll get in some major crap if your teacher finds you playing games without permission in class...

We do have permission lol, don't worry. :3
EDIT: I should add, this is for days where we don't have anything to do. Most of the time we don't, so, i figured i'd make it more enjoyable for myself.
yes. You can just use a batch file on the flash drive.
set APPDATA=%~dp0
nlauncher
%~dp0 here points to the path the batch file is in, which will be the Flash Drive. this will make Minecraft look for it's data in a .minecraft folder on the drive. You can add extra folders. Bear in mind the %~dp0 usually includes the slash.

The launcher has to be started from here.
Is there a way to do it on Mac? That's what we have at school.

I'm not sure how to do that, so it'd probably be easier to copy your data to C:\Users\Own\AppData\Roaming
I don't follow.
What am i copying and where to?
(Sorry for derp moment)
No. Stop.
copy your .minecraft to "C:\Users\Own\AppData\Roaming"
Own is my COMPUTER user name, put in your COMPUTER user name.
But how would that affect my flash drive at all? That would just relocate it.
No. Stop.
Yes. Exactly. Like I said, I don't think there is a way to point the Minecraft launcher to your flash drive.
So.. what would be the point of it? xD
No. Stop.
So you can keep your .minecraft when you switch to a different computer?
This would be... useful...
