I'm playing a server with a couple of friends and I seem to be the only one having this issue. It has been working fine for the last two weeks (they just got me hooked on Minecraft). But, last night I was playing, and in the middle of playing suddenly I opened up a door and couldn't get in. I kept trying and trying until I finally popped in, then bounced back out (like teleporting). I tried again, and eventually got in. I closed the door.
My friend then asks me why I'm standing outside. (I wasn't, on my screen I was inside). I explained I was inside and the door was open, and she told me I was outside and the door was closed. So I signed off and signed back in and sure enough I was outside. So she let me in the house. I left click on things and they don't destroy, or they destroy for a second and then pop back. I right click and nothing happens, I don't open any boxes, place anything on the ground, or go to sleep in the bed. I've tried signing out and signing back in, I've changed mouses, I've used my laptop touchpad, but nothing works.
Try testing your internet speed using speedtest and see what results it gives you, especially the ping rating. You might also try pinging the server IP address manually. If the ping is over 150 you will definitely experience lag.
My rooommate is playing at the same time as I am and she's not having any issues. I have the same problem in single player. Right now I'm trapped inside the house. I'm opening the door, and she's inside the house with me and when I open the door, she doesn't see it open. She opens the door, and I see it open and can get out. But, if I open the door and try to go out I hit an invisible wall (because the door apparently really isn't open).
Is this a LAN server in the same building or is this a true server you're connecting to through the internet? Is your friend hosting the server on the PC they play on?
I'm thinking something with an antivirus, firewall or router is slowing things down for you. Have you tried putting exceptions into your antivirus and firewall for Java and minecraft?
This is caused by tile syncing, which means the client has a much greater ping then the server (too high), or vice-versa. In this case, the server must have a really bad ping.
Definitely? I have a feeling that the Minecraft ping thingy (hover mouse over server connection bar in server list) is cheating... I have 300 ping to my server, and I have no lag.
Just a rule of thumb. At 150 is the beginning where lag can creep in. 300 ping though I'm surprised if you have no lag at all.
So we tried a theory where I dumped all my stuff and my roommate killed me and I spawned again.
When I spawned after she killed me I could see inside the world. It was like, everything in front of me was solid, but beyond a few squares it was like the world was invisible. I could see lava pits and caves below me. This thing is super glitched. My roommate tried to use my new ability to find her stronghold... I started glitching again when I tried to enter the house again, which is where it started glitching last time.

I'm running Windows 7 and my Java is up to date.
How can I fix this issue?
Thanks!

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
