I just joined my friends server and was automatically in creative mode. He has a survival server. I cannot change to survival mode with the /gamemode command as I dont have OP permissions. My buddy says the server wont let him change me to survival, or make me an OP. He says he cant modify my stats. Any ideas?

Moderatorif that doesn't for some reason work, tell him to stop the server and add your name to the ops.txt file.
