So, first of all I am connecting to lan via my college wireless internet, and when the other guys I play with, who all have macs, try to connect to a lan world it works perfectly, but when I try to connect with my pc while they are hosting, or if they try to connect to me when i'm hosting, the lan world doesn't even show up at all.
So it seems there is some sort of PC to MAC connectivity issue here. Has anyone come across a solution to this problem?
Your PC is blocking both incoming and outgoing game announcement packets.
As a workaround, when one of them host you should be able to direct connect to the IP address that shows in the announcement on one of the non-hosting MACs.
For your announcements to work you need to unblock UDP port 4445 (upnotifyp)

So how do I go about unblocking the UDP port. is that in the command prompt? Thank you very much
It depends upon your software. Windows firewall for example:
1.Open Windows Firewall by clicking Start, Control Panel, Security, and then Windows Firewall.
2.Click 'Allow a program through Windows Firewall'.
3.Click 'Add port'.
4.In the 'Name' field, type a friendly name for the port like 'Port-4445'.
5.In the 'Port number' field, enter the port number '4445'.
6.Select TCP or UDP, depending on the protocol required for port 4445.
