I'm running windows 8, and have a 64 bit system with 12GB ram.
I can run minecraft all good and well when I use a 32 bit java, however, upon running it using 64 bit java, I get an issue. A black screen. No Mojang logo. Ever. Just a black screen. No error report. Windows doesn't even tell me it's stopped responding.
So just play it on 32 bit right?
No thanks.
I also like to use mods, which makes the 1.5GB limit on 32 bit a tad frustrating.
Even in vanilla minecraft, 1.5GB can experience some lag in the nether and The End.
Especially if I wish to have the luxury of using a high res texture pack.
When running a modded client, I get a white screen. Which may be worth noting. But still, no error reports or windows butting in.
I've installed every combination of 64 bit and 32 bit java. from standalone, to combining the two folders, to anything I could try with that.
As well as playing with the environment variables back and forth to both versions.
I've also force updated, as well as just deleted all the folders in %appdata%.
Okay. So this is interesting.
I downloaded the .exe version just to play around with that.
Again to no avail.
However...I right clicked on it and there's this option "Run with graphics processor->"
and it let's me choose "High performance nvidia driver (Default)" & "Integrated graphics"...
I have to select integrated graphics for now, which is a small inconvenience, but one I can live with if need be.
Well first. I'd like to point out that memory is most likely not the issue you are having. I run 50ish mods 128x texture pack, and use less memory then the default (768 Mb max 512 Mb Start), with no lag or performance issues.
When I spam create mystcraft ages then ya, it'll slow down. (I'll generally up the allocated memory to 2G if I know I'm going to create a bunch of ages.)

Obviously after that last line, nothing else loaded. That's when the black screen hits.
The .class files in the minecraft directory could be the problem.
There shouldn't be any loose .class files

I suggest backing up your save files, and then deleting the entire .minecraft folder. And starting fresh.
The error is gone, however the problem persists.

I know this is a few months late, but I am having the exact same problem. I also have the same model of computer with the same graphics card- maybe it's a problem with the GeForce 670? It seems like this must be the case, because starting the game with the Integrated graphics processor works fine. If anyone has found a solution, it would be appreciated!

Retired StaffIt black screened.
Thanks for the reply. I'll try playing with some of the batch setting maybe.
I downloaded the .exe version just to play around with that.

Hope that helps solve this issue!

But to solve your 64 bit java issue, try removing all your java installs 32 and 64.
java link: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Install only the 64 bit version, then run the error logger from here: http://www.minecraft...aft-error-test/
Post the results back in this thread.
