So, I bought the game today, downloaded it and ran it. It patched itself fine, and the client works. I can play single player.
When I click the Multiplayer button the client goes to the Play Multiplayer screen and says
"Scanning for LAN Worlds"
Then it just sits there. After 10 seconds or so, the fan in my system kicks into super-high gear too.
I'm able to click the Direct Connect and Add Server buttons (although I have no idea what I would put in there).
Refresh plays a clicking sound when I click it, and the Cancel button works (so the client isn't unresponsive or anything).
The first time I ran the game and clicked the Multiplayer button Windows Firewall prompted me, but I said yes.
I'm not using any other firewall software, or anything that could affect my network (that I'm aware of... you never really know without a lot of work, but there's nothing suspicious to me, and I've been a tech for a while...).
So, any ideas?Hey... how'd this forum get my other forum pic already... ?
That's kinda creepy.

That it working as intended, the client itself will only search for LAN worlds. For online worlds, you have to manually input the server IP and such. We have a forum section dedicated to advertising Multiplayer servers here: www.minecraftforum.net/forum/31-servers/
Our site also provides a repository for servers here, servers.minecraftforum.net
Otherwise, there are alot of servers out there, where a simple Google search will yield tons of results leading to other repositories.

Oh, I see. I assumed that it'd look on the net first. My bad.
I'll go look for a server then and figure out how to set it up. I should be good.
Thanks for the help!
I'm guessing it pulled the avatar from Gravatar.
Ah, yea... that'd be it.
...still kinda creepy.
