After consideration of his computer's lack of newness, I decided to let him play on my mac. So i upgraded to Mountain Lion and downloaded a fresh and shiny Java.

i know on his pc i ran some other diagnostic thing. i can't even find the .txt of the error report on this mac. i can barely believe i worked in tech support for 6 years before i had kids. this is really depressing.
I know very very very little about mac (I think I can turn the one on we have in the house...)
I know the one we have minecraft works with java 7. But like you many people get that error, normally for those people using java 6 works. Maybe it has something to do with the OSX version and java 7 not being compatible or OSX+JAVA 7+LWJGL not working together. idk.

i cannot find that file name path on this mac. i also cannot get that file name found by finder. i would love to share it with you. thank you for your suggestions.
i added an OpenGL viewer from the apple store. it is up to date.
i am having trouble with the LWJGL - the first link is broken, so i downloaded the stuff from github and i am trying to figure out how to run that.
i re-downloaded java 7, since java wasn't working at all, but i remember where those steps were to switch back & forth.
i am wondering if Minecraft stored the file in a windows place on my mac. Finder>Go> didn't find it.
since we tried to play first on his PC, do i need to do something on the minecraft side to play on my mac?
this is driving me crazy. i found the mac tutorial. i can't find java preferences. i can't run the LWJGL thing that i downloaded. i am a smart, funny, nice, and capable woman and this minecraft thing is the bane of my existence.

I'm laughing right now. Hang in there.
On the wiki is a pretty good tutorial on what to do with the lwjgl files you downloaded. Basically what you downloaded is a collection of files, however which ones you use to replace the older lwjgl files in the minecraft install depends on what your OS is. Look under the 'what to replace' section for specifics. Make sure you got the 2.8.4 lwjgl files, if you're not sure what you got, here is a link to redownload and get 2.8.4.
and it crashed again.

But my best advice is to try java 6.
is how to back up to java 6, but the terminal line wants a password - but i have never used a system password on this computer. ever.
i cannot believe i have spent all this time and all this money and still failed.

http://www.minecraft...ac-support-101/
In there it mentions that playing in browser can be problematic and has a work around that may work.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..

Regarding Java preferences in 7 for Mac see this topic: http://apple.stackex...has-disappeared
