I have no Idea how this happened, but it started happening a couple of days ago... when I clicked on the "minecraft" icon, it started to load, but it took 2 minutes for the launcher to pop up (the screen where you login). I really don't know how this is happening, as I've tried to reinstall minecraft, delete everything related to minecraft then start it, stuff like that. Please help!
P.S. It's been happening on both my mac OS X and my windows 7
EDIT: It's been happening on ALL java powered applications now... HELP
Another EDIT: ARGH >.< THIS IS SO COMPLICATED I REINSTALLED MINECRAFT FOR BOTH OF MY COMPUTERS AND NOW MY PC HAS THE BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH AND MY MAC HAS FREQUENT KERNAL PANICS

It can be two things, what nivram said "your virus scanners." It could be because of your virus protection software, it may not allow Minecraft to run.
The other is what jpmrocks said "your RAM is filled up." Your computer might not have enough space to put the files of the launcher in it place. To view how much RAM your computer have go to- Start Menu> Find the Computer Icon, Right-Click then Properties> Go under System and look at Installed memory (RAM).

Thx guys for replying, but all I can say that I use Sophos Anti-Virus, and I scanned my computer 5 times and couldn't find any viruses, and I'm pretty sure that it doesn't block minecraft, as I've had it since I got minecraft (a couple of months ago) and minecraft was working fine. Also, if i'm correct, my laptop has 4 RAM installed, and I think I used up around a third of it. (when I checked it said 316GB free out of Maximum 499GB)
If you tweaked your minecraft to "use more ram" and changed the Xms parameter, that can lead to slow start up times. The allocated Java heap is memory that Java is using, even if minecraft is not using it yet (It's "free"). So all that allocated memory (as specified by Xms) is taken at start up which can require swapping other processes to disk [slow]

Thanks for replying, my minecraft says: Allocated Memory: 54% (554MB) memory. Is that too much or too little? if so, how do I change the memory? Please reply, as I haven't messed with my minecraft before.
No that's normal, the default Xms is 500MB and there is so noise in there (from somewhere) so 554MB / 54% is not unexpected...
Is your PC memory constrained? Apps like firefox can easily use > 1G of memory leaving less for things like Minecraft.
I don't think my memory is constrained, if you're talking about my laptop, then I think yeah. (To be honest I really have no idea what you're talking about)
Edit: Ok... Now all java powered applications are taking 2 minutes to load...

he means is minecraft the only thing yore running on your computer when you try to run it. try to free up as much ram as you possibly can and close all other applications then try to start minecraft. but also if java is taking that long to load. check you system processes make sure you dont have 3-4 or more actual javas running at a time. you could uninstall reinstall java and try restarting your computer see how that works. it can also happen if youre running a modded client . even with say optifine or mcpatcher and using HD textures. that cn put alot on your system

Oh... I play vanilla minecraft, not even optifine is installed, and I don't know how to reinstall java, because said something about a hard drive system so I think it came preinstalled with my computer.

Are your virus scanners kicking in?

Only make other things while you open the launcher. I have the same problem and for me its no annoying. Firefox take practically 1:30m for start.
