A week ago, java told me it needed an update. So i did it, and everything is fine...
Except Minecraft. I can barely play minecraft because 82% of the memory gets eaten almost immediately.
More then 50% ever happened before the java update last week.
So i go ingame, and check the information. Here is a picture:
You will see Minecraft isn't even using a single GB, yet the second Minecraft opens all the memory gets eaten up by java. You will also see how insanely high java.exe is.
The moment minecraft closes memory goes back to normal (37%).
I can't even go in the server list without the memory spiking up. Not just ingame.
I wish i didn't update, or knew which "build" i was on before so i could downgrade.
I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this and or found a fix.
This is quite a peculiar problem, I recently updated too but haven't seen this. Perhaps try booting with MagicLauncher and force memory to allocate a certain way. That might help...

As you see though, minecraft itself isn't taking a whole lot. Java is taking a whole lot any time minecraft runs.
We had this recent thread but no solid resolution was found. The one more vocal guy said the problem went away at some point. He also theorized that the process wasn't actually taking real ram, however I didn't follow his logic. Sounded to me like the process would close if available ram got too low, but at any rate it sounded like extra process(s) would release if another process needed ram.
Are you using a 3rd party launcher or Optifine out of curiosity?
The ram allotments in MagicLauncher (or the .jar version) configures the ram the entire JVM uses.
No, it configures how much Java Heap the JVM will use. The OP's screenshot shows that the heap is not any larger than you would expect with the defaults.
Any DLL being loaded could use extra memory... security / antivirus programs sometimes inject their DLLs into the JVM, various utilities (like xfire in game chat) do the same. The list of DLLs can be seen if you manage to get an hs_err_pid. Not sure how you can force one on windows though.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
