A Friends PC doesnt seem to like Minecraft and I can't figure it out, At first when trying to run Minecraft it would show an error "Bad video card drivers! Unable to find accelerated Opengl".
So I updated the video card driver from nvidia.com (it was running the default nvidia driver installed by Windows before that).
With the updated Nivida driver installed now when pressing Login from the launcher the first screen where it checks for updates comes up and then immediately closes with no errors displayed, we're just left staring at the desktop.
Things I've tried:
Applied all current Windows updates (It was a little behind).
Delete .minecraft folder and redownloaded minecraft.exe from minecraft.net
Uninstalled / Reinstalled Java (Version 7, update 11), No other Java installs are shown in Add/Remove programs.
Installed 2 different Nvidia graphic drivers
Ran minecraft as administrator / tried the various compatiblity modes.
Other games we've installed so far, only a couple, work fine (Bejeweled 3, Angry Birds Rio)
This is an older PC we're trying to get going for his son but I think it should work with Minecraft.
Well I was going to post results from the Minecraft error batch file but I got the game working.. But the way I fixed it is still a bit of a mystery..
I reinstalled the current Nvidia driver but this time I selected Custom Install and checked the "Clean Install" box..
This is where it gets wierd, The driver install failed halfway through with no specific reason other than "Install failed", ive never seen an nvidia installer fail like this, Anyhow I tried rebooting / reinstalling but it failed again, this caused windows to download and install the default Nvidia 6800 driver from Windows Update and now Minecraft works.. Go figure! lol
