A few months ago when I first had this gaming PC, I was testing all my games, and EVERYTHING ran amazing on highest settings, when I tested minecraft everything worked great on absolute highest settings, but after 5, 10 minutes of playing I got this horrible lag which took me down to about 1 frame every 2 or 3 seconds, and changing the settings didn't solve the problem! It was reccomended that I turn advanced OpenGL on, so I did, and that fixed it...temporarily...after about another 30 minutes of playing the lag came back!
Any suggestions?
Here's a spoiler of my original topic...
I recently built my new gaming PC, and minecraft was not my first benchmark test. The other things I tested (all on max graphics) all preformed AMAZING, absolutley no lag at all. Specs if you're interested:
CPU: Intel Ivy Bridge Core i5-3570K, @3.40GHz Power Supply: Cosair TX650M *650Watt* Memory/RAM: Cosair Vengeance 16GB @1666MHz Hard Drive: 1TB 7200RPM Spindel Hard Drive Video Card/GPU: EVGA Superclocked nVidia GTX 660Tí, 2GB Memory, 192-bit, approx. 1000MHz core clock. Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Monitor: Samsung 1920x1080 24" LCD Monitor, 16:9 Ratio
(NOTE: I DO have AntiVirus, updated Drivers, etc)
So far, on all highest settings, the games I have tested are Civilization 5, ran very well with no lag whatsoever, also, the parts did not overheat Team Fortress 2, same situation as above Terraria, same situation as above Age of Empires 3, same situation as above
Now I will explain my situation in greater depth. I ran minecraft on highest settings, and I am usually getting around 60 FPS in singleplayer, since I have FPS limiting on. No internal server lag either. Then, I went onto my favourite server, and the FPS was fine, until I looked up, NOTE, there ARE large buildings on the server, it is not just wilderness. So I was fine, until I moved around, suddenly I dropped to about 1 frame every 2 seconds, and it never got better until I went back to the menu, where my FPS was restored. Here is where I decided to try downloading optifine to fix it, I went to singleplayer first, 130FPS on highest settings (Vanilla highest), multiplayer, same thing, 1 frame per 2 seconds. I figured until I fixed the lag I could still play singleplayer, so I got one of my favourite mods, Tale of Kingdoms, fired up a world, and when I got close the the guild (If you don't know how the mod works, a HUGE building called the guild spawns) and I got the SAME thing. If anyone has any suggestions about how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated.
I'm having the same problem as well, the only thing we have in common are NVIDIA graphics. Anyone who I've talked to (1 person) who has had this problem had an NVIDIA card... Maybe MC has a bug conflicting with the drivers? Idk, your guess is as good as mine, I'm updating my drivers as I speak... If it fixes it I'll let you know.
May be a stupid question, But are you running with fullscreen (F11) or the options? I have a EVGA GTX 680. and for some reason my minecraft lags when im not running fullscreen. That was the only fix for me. but then the Nvidia drivers updated and its fixed... for me atleast.
*Bump* I really really need help on fixing this problem :/
The Intel Ivy Bridge Core i5-3570K has integrated graphics. It's possible that minecraft/java is trying to use the Intel HD graphics imbedded in the processor rather then using your dedicated card.
There should be an option in the Nvidia control panel to force java/minecraft to use the dedicated card.
Well I don't have a cpu with integrated graphics, so I doubt it's that. I tried fullscreen, no success there. Updating to the latest drivers didnt help either...I might have to add that while it's lagging, windows explorer/youtube/basically most things visual also seem to take a huge toll as well, but this only happens through minecraft... Any ideas? Tried defrag and anti virus. Nada

It may not be the issue for you, but it could be for OP.
We need more information about your system. Post a Dxdiag, or share the same info that OP did in his post.
Any suggestions?

Retired StaffTry playing around with the Nvidia Control Panel, and seeing if it changes anything. Also try to give Minecraft more RAM. It might be running low.
Tried all of those, same thing, getting amazing fps on good graphics, but after a few minutes of heating the fps dies.
