The problem: any time one of my dogs walks within 16 blocks of a nether portal, he will head straight into it, even if im just walking past it. as soon as he touches the purple wall, he disappears where i can later find him in the nether along with all the other dogs that disappeared before him. in rare cases (approx. 5% of the time) i can just push them back through the portal and everything is good, however the common occurrence is for them to be stuck, rejected by the portal. this has been occurring since version 1.4.0 and still stands and i am getting very tired of losing my dogs to the portal. i am wondering if this is a glitch, and if it is, is there a way to avoid/bypass it. if it is not a glitch (which i doubt) then i request a "fix" as i have better things to use my bones and meat for other than supplying the nether with dogs.
What keeps you from putting a couple fence gates in front of the portal to keep them from wandering in?
Regarding them getting stuck when you push them back into the portal, you might look on the bug reporting site for your issue, if you don't find one then make a new bug report.

mostly it would ruin the look of the "nether portal room" and im too lazy to put in a way to keep dogs out of that room while im going past it in a way that wouldnt ruin the look... btw the bug reporting thingy isnt letting me post the issue (i did look for it but i did not see it)

still isnt letting me... oh well i decided im just gonna keep my nether portal room away from any areas with trafic so the dogs never notice... still, a fix would be nice

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
