of course, Minecraft is the first program I am trying to install. I installed Java, both 32 bit and 64. I can click on the MC icon and the Mojang splash screen loads. I click on Single Player, and then try to click on Create New World, and nothing happens. None of those buttons work actually, even Cancel. I have to close MC by clicking on the X. Same thing happens with MultiPlayer: I can not click on the buttons to Join a Server. I am running Windows 8 with a Touch Screen in Desktop mode and tried compatibility mode for Win7. I also tried as an administrator. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Well, I have heard of simular problems with the windows 8 users not being able to click anything on their minecraft client. I recommend figuring out more by searching it up at the microsoft solutions center.... and asking someone about you being unable to access most gaming content.
No, I didn't find the touch screen options yet. I just wanted to see minecraft on my new laptop. I thought that maybe win 8 was incompatible with minecraft from what happened, but you two make me think it must be a setting somewhere?
Well, I took the laptop back and got one with no touch screen and windows 7. I have a coupon for win8, I will want to try it when it's a little more well known. And as for the touch screen, I went with the dedicated nvidia card and i7 processor instead, all for the same amount of money.
I'll keep these directions in case I try the touchscreen win 8 again, so thank you for the clear directions. I wasn't all that impressed with win 8: it had a cluttered main screen geared to social networking, which is not my thing. I want to use my laptop for minecraft, movies, and word processing with cloud storage, so I know I'll be happy with the new one coming my way.

I agree about Win 8 . I'm not a big fan of it, but I have it and it runs MC just fine. It was probably a problem with the touchscreen or something to that degree with the whole touchscreen laptops and computers being relatively new.

You most likely need to open ports/disable firewall and or portforward.
