Yeah, I know, PC is much more better at gaming and whenever I look for help I rarely see any help videos or tips that involve a Mac computer. But I couldn't resist getting Minecraft for my computer and now I've ran into a couple of problems, three or four of which I'll be sharing.

First off: how do I play online? Whenever I try to log in it always looks like this:





Nothing else changes except for that bottom part where it tells me my login failed. No matter how many times I try to login again I get the same message and end up playing offline. And it's great! But I always want to know if there's something wrong, like a bug I need to report or something. I'm only really concerned because a while ago I decided to change my skin but try as I might, I always look like Steve on my game and I heard that the reason why that is is because I'm not connected online. Or something. I don't know, all I know is that it's kind of a bummer to keep playing my game in the default skin.

Second problem: How to play multiplayer. I'm not really interested in joining a public server (though finding out how I can do that can be cool because, as you can see in my screenshots I don't know where or how I can put in an IP address) but I really do want to play on a new map with a friend. However, since I'm apparently unable to login online I feel like that might be a challenge, so I'll really appreciate it if you guys can help sort out all of this mess.

Finally: How can I backup my file? I've had Minecraft for a couple of months now, and haven't gotten bored of the Vanilla version at all. I've used absolutely no hacks or mods, and have primarily been playing on only one world. So now I'm completely paranoid that my world will become corrupt someday or that I'll loose everything I've done in that world like if a Server-Creeper snuck up behind me. (I'm sorry for that lame joke.) Also, I've heard some previous solutions for my other problems were to re-download Minecraft and, because I'm a frightened technology-inept noob, I'm afraid if that'll erase my world. So a way to back up my file would be GREATLY appreciated.

Whew. That's all, I guess. I know this is a really long post filled with many problems that I'm sure have been answered already but for the life of me have not been able to find, either because I'm blind or an idiot, but if only one question can be answered from this then I'll be eternally grateful.

are you using a premium account? That would be your main problem.
Check if you have an internet connection, and make sure your typing your password/username correctly.
Also if the Mojang login servers are down, it might be causing the problem, usually you just have to wait 24hrs for them to come back up.

In the first image, it shows your username typed in, but not the password. This might sound like a stupid question, but are you typing in your password before clicking the login button? Because if you don't type in your password, it says exactly what it says on the second image.
