I found a save of mine from alpha and I was wondering if there is anyway I could convert it up to the current version to play it. I know that it will get all messed up when I load new chunks, but I had enough loaded in it that I would be fine, I just want to revisit my first real big build.
You'll need to step it up. You first need to convert it to the anvil format. I don't remember off hand what version of minecraft that was, but you could use multiMC to convert to different MC versions bump it up acouple version load the world, bump it up a few more, rinse and repeat.
if your current minecraft won't load the map or even see the file you could try using multimc or mcnostalgia to downgrade your jar to an older version of the game that will read it, and then upgrade the jar a version a time untill the map in converted to the new format, or something along those lines
