So hello I am new here so I apologise if this thread is in the wrong category but I am unsure which would be the correct one. Anyway here's the story I recently bought Minecraft but I am unable to run it it just keeps freezing either at the main menu or as soon as I start the game up.
It seem's Java is using far too much CPU and I have looked for fixes and found non, I have tried uninstalling java 7 and using java 6 yet that didn't work and I tried it a few times over. (I have been using the correct 32 bit for my OS)
My laptop is 32 bit windows 7, 4GB RAM, i5 2.27ghz, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5400 Series.
I have tried some fixes such as lowering video settings and allocating more memory to Java but nothing has worked so far. I have a suspicion that it may have something to do with the Internet that we have at my university that has some blocks on and is really slow so I thought maybe that is damaging the game.
When I launch minecraft from the downloaded launcher all I get is a grey screen saying failed to update news and I am unable to log it, I can launch it with the offline option and the in browser option but the game freezes and crashes like I literally can't be on it for more than about 15 seconds.
I tried MultiMC and that won't work for me.
So I was hoping by some miracle that one of you geniuses would have a fix for me?
If so please run this advanced error tester and post a copy of the log it gives you. Hopefully it will give us some clue as to where things are going wrong.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
