Have there been some changes to the volume levels to in game sounds? I can barely hear Steve walking on grass but when he walks on any other surface it is much louder. So much so it is startling. I checked the sound files outside the game and they seem to play at the same volume. I have the latest sound card drivers I have tried deleting and redownloading minecraft as well. Any help is appreciated.
Check volume sliders. No luck. I was aware of some changes to the game sounds but I though it was just the sound itself not the volume. Oh well, thanks everyone for the replies. now, just one more block.......

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
