Hello, I'm new here please tell me if this isn't in the right place.
Whenever I try to open/join a LAN with my sister, it says "Scanning for LAN" but nothing comes up, I'm using a Windows 8 laptop with Minecraft 1.4.7 it started in 1.4.6 but I thought it would be fixed in 1.4.7 but it still won't work.
My internet box has a fire wall on it... for anything to go though it, we would need too phone the company, to get the password too get the password... It's too much work and effort, plus my mother wont allow it.
Direct connecting to the LAN appears to fix the problem for me as well, someone should make a point to add this hot tip to some page on the wiki that people will find when they search this issue.

Retired StaffLan was working on this computer a while ago..
It's an Acer laptop, if that makes a difference?

Even this doesn't help. Bro and I tried.
ISP's cannot block LAN, as they have no control over it since all of the action happens with your router and it alone.
