In my panicky rush to post this last night I accidentally put this post in the wrong place, so I'll try again in the unmodded section. I worked for a long time on a project, and Minecraft crashed when I broke a jukebox to move it. I didn't realize at the time that that's what caused it, but now I've reproduced it several times and I'm sure that it's the breaking of the jukebox that causes the crash, and at the same time entirely deletes and reloads the chunk it's in. This made me lose my beautiful detailed project, and I'm not sure that I'll be able to replicate it
I copied the save file and have been frantically searching for a way to fix this error, but any guides that seem relevant are hopelessly outdated. I've messed with the level.dat files and even downloaded MCEdit (long after this error ever occurred, in case that's why my post was moved to the modded section-- there's no way MCEdit caused the crash) to see if there was anything I could do. At this point it seems pretty hopeless, but the building was such a nightmare to work on that I'm desperate for any possible solution.
If anyone can give me some advice I would really appreciate it. Similarly, if there's a way to prevent the game from freaking out when I break a jukebox, I'd love to know about it.
The same thing just happened to me about a half an hour ago and it's driving me nuts. Some of my basement and sub basement are still intact but not much else as far as the house goes. On the flip side, my shed, animal farm, greenhouse, and vegetable farm are all still untouched. This is an awful bug. I'm hoping we can somehow revert back to the old save files or I'm screwed :-/
