I'm assuming it freezes while it's downloading? If that's the case, disable your firewall while you update. My cousin has had trouble updating due to firewall issues.

when i try to force update the launcher, it just freezes, is there anyway I can fix this
PS. this does that with updates, too.

What exactly did you let through? Most likely you'll want to make an exception for javaw.exe to allow java, instead of the minecraft.exe launcher.

I don't use the .exe, I use the .jar due to memory limitations
What does your launching script look like?
Try running the advanced error tester and post a copy of the log here.
