Hey I don't know if this is the right place to post this.. but hmm..
Anyway I'm having problems connecting to LAN
Me and my bro both have legit minecraft accounts and anytime I open a LAN world he can't see it open and when he opens a LAN I can see it on search but I can't connect to it it keeps saying "connection timed out,"
I tried the firewall and all the other things but I can't figure out how to connect... If anyone has had the same problem and knows how to fix it please let me know cause it's kind of bumming me out...
I'm having the same problem. My son and I frequently play using two computers hooked up through our router. Ever since the last update, when we try to do multiplayer by opening one of our computers to LAN, the IPAddress it displays on the hosting computer is "0.0.0.0:someportnumber." The multiplayer queue on the non hosting computer won't discover the host computer. The only way we can even try to connect is through a direct connection. Even then, only one of our computers is working as a host, but the other one won't.
We made a work around by typing in the IPV4 Address of the hosting computer, and the port number, and that works, but only for one of our computers. I can host, but my son can't. I have no idea why it won't work in reverse.
The only difference between our two machines is that I uninstalled all of the tekkit mods and did a clean install of Minecraft and Java after we had connection issues. Even though my son used to be able to host without a problem, he can't anymore, and its driving me crazy trying to figure out why. No matter what I do, I can't connect to his computer when he hosts even when we use a direct connection with the correct IPV4 address and assigned port given by Minecraft when you open the LAN connection. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.
****EDIT**** I went into my firewall setttings, and turned off the private/home firewall, and that fixed the problem with my sons computer not being able to host. The firewall was preventing a connection. So, as far as I can tell, all you need to do is have one computer open to lan, then have all other computer do a direct connect through multiplayer mode. Enter the IPV4 (IP Address) address of the hosting computer, along with the assigned port number that minecraft displays with the 0.0.0.0's, and it should work. For example. If Minecraft displayed 0.0.0.0:55438, then you would find the host IPADDRESS, (pretend it is 192.168.0.197 for this example), and enter it into the direct connect dialogue box like this "192.168.0.197:55438" If your firewalls are turned off, then this should work.
