To be completely honest with you, your computer isn't that powerful nowadays and you're running a very resource-inefficient OS.
If you want to get more performance with your current PC, I'd suggest getting another RAM stick (if at a reasonable price) and get a graphics card (maybe a Radeon 4xxx card).
