Hey all. I'm trying to play over a LAN connection with my girlfriend but I can't get it to work.
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit on a Dell Inspiron.
She's running OS X 10.7.5 on a Macbook Air. I don't know anything about Macs, that's what she told me she's running.
We are sitting in the same room, both connected to the same router.
I create a world, select Open to LAN, and select start LAN world. I get that my world is running on 0.0.0.0:port. This already seems weird to me.
She goes to multiplayer, her computer scans for a while, then finds the world I made. She double clicks on it, and after like 45 seconds: Failed to Connect to Server: Operation Timed Out.
She clicks on direct connect. Seeing that 0.0.0.0 is obviously not my IP address, I go to cmd and type ipconfig. I find my IPv4 Address. In the direct connect text box, my girlfriend types in the IP address I found in cmd followed by a colon (:) and the port Minecraft told me my LAN world is running on. After about 45 seconds: Failed to Connect to Server: Operation Timed Out.
I'm pretty much out of ideas. I looked through my firewall settings and it doesn't look like anything is being blocked. I don't really know how to use Macs, so I don't know how to check her firewall. According to her, nothing is being blocked, which means that nothing is popping up telling her something is getting blocked. Neither of us knows how to mess with firewall settings on a Mac.
I've been led to understand that the Open to LAN option does not require any port forwarding or messing around with IP's and stuff. The whole point of it is to let people connect quickly and easily. So what's going on? Can anyone help me out? Is this a bug with 1.4.6, or am I doing something wrong?
Hmmm, maybe you and your girlfriend should rey reinstalling your minecraft.jars...Or,just try to force update again(even if there's no new update, sometimes it works). And,did that starting happening when you installed minecraft 1.4.6,or it happened before?

I have the same exact problem. It only started after update 1.4.6. I tried reinstalling but it still didn't work. Anyone know how to fix it?

I don't know if it was happening before, because this was the first time we tried playing over LAN, and we both have 1.4.6.
I'll give force updating a shot, but if that doesn't work, then I have absolutely no idea what to do.
It looks like many people are having this problem, but not every Minecraft client is affected, which is odd. Google searching showed me that others have been experiencing this since 1.4.4, and 1.4.5 was supposed to fix it, but it didn't for many users.
I'm getting so mad, me and my cousin are like 10 feet away. Some people said they fixed it by deleting their port, and re-forwarding it or something, but I have no idea how to do that!
Just download the minecraft.jar of minecraft 1.4.2 you dont have things like enchanted books but its ok if you just want to play with a friend, a brother or gf http://assets.minecr...2/minecraft.jar
