I have been having this unexplained lag when playing on my server with my brother. I can play up to 3-10 minutes with about 20-70 fps, but then ends up with it taking 10 seconds to show 1 FREAKIN FRAME! It is sorta like -100 fps or something like that.
I am forced to leave Minecraft and rejoin the server to play 5 more minutes until it megalags again!
Someone please tell me what is happening!

All my computers came with WIndows 7 and my dad never actually bought it. My dad has Windows XP though. Heck no I don't wanna use that! Plus, on my crappy laptop with 1 gb of RAM and a Standard VGA video card and is 12 years old just got Windows XP on it and it won't go on the internet anymore!

Avoid Windows XP for Minecraft. XPs are too old. Mine started dying 3 years ago because of melted dust going onto the CPU fan. I think you're out of luck with you not having Windows 7. Sorry, I can't really give you further help.
I feel for you. I had to work very hard to get Dell to sell me that computer with Windows 7. Once Win 8 came out they made it extremely difficult, but not completely impossible.
