So, I have been reminiscing of the time when minecraft was still new. I really wanted to feel that special feeling of not knowing how to do anything, and building my empire very nonuniformly while I was still learning the basics.
Today I remembered that I had moved my first levels' saves from one computer to another over 2 years ago (wow, has it really been that long?), and lo and behold I came across the thumb drive I used!
I have 6 of my very first worlds right in front of me! So, I copied all of them all into my saves folder, started up minecraft aaaaaand... none of them are in the world selection...
I remember needing to update the formatting of my beta maps one or a few times, but I didnt carry any of them over to the release version. I just have these 1.0.2 beta worlds that supposedly arent even recognized and dont show up.
I know that release 1.3 updated the file system to allow for LAN joining, and I'm assuming that's a main issue? Is there any way that I can convert these save files all the way from 1.0.2 beta to 1.4.6 release?
You need to convert them to MCRegion(The converter was taken out in 1.2 for Anvil) with either a version before 1.2 or using Exalm's NBXLite because he re-added the converter.

Now that that's taken care of... They're not showing up in the 1.4.6 world selection because they're still in Alpha level format. You can use a mod called NBXlite to convert them all the way to Anvil format (the current world format), but the worlds will be forever unplayable in Beta 1.0.2. That's why I said to back them up. Another option is to convert the worlds to MCRegion format (world format used from Beta 1.3 to MC 1.1) in any version of Minecraft before 1.2. In order to do this, you'd need to use a program like MCNostalgia (http://www.minecraft...cnostalgia-104/), Minecraft Version Changer (http://www.minecraft...oads-indev-147/), or Minecraft Version Patcher (www.minecraftforum.net/topic/352333-minecraft-version-patcher-mcpatcher-147pre-indev-mc-147-750000-dls/). These programs allow you to downgrade to an earlier version of Minecraft. If you want, you can play these old worlds in Beta 1.0.2. To convert the world to MCRegion, downgrade to any version before MC 1.2. You'll see your old worlds in the world selection area. Click on them and let them convert. Now exit and update to the current version of Minecraft. This time, the worlds will be in the world selection, ready to be converted. Convert and play! Remember to back up the original worlds in case you wish to play them in Beta 1.0.2. Happy crafting!

Well, that is why I said:
