I just bought Minecraft. I can play it in a browser just fine, but I was hoping to run it off of my computer so I could use a game controller with it (easier on my tendinitis ridden hands).
However, I can't even start up the game. I get an error message that says "could not create java virtual machine". I checked, and I have the most recent version of Java. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling Minecraft, too. I did some Google homework, and I guess this is a problem that other people have had...but the threads I found didn't offer satisfactory answers that worked for me.
Still, I did run a Minecraft error test program, and these are the results it came up with:

Hmm your system setup looks fine... have you ran minecraft on this computer before? Try to completely uninstall java and reinstall (unless you have already)
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Please post specs for your machine. Or a DXDIag would be awesome
Nope! This is the first time I've ever tried it. I'll try reinstalling Java again, though I didn't have much luck the first time. But perhaps I didn't do a complete uninstall.
Is it possible that antivirus software could be interfering? I have Malware Bytes, Avira, and Zone Alarm. No popups occur, though, which is usually the culprit. And I do find it mighty strange that I can run the browser version just fine, but not the local one.
Well, I tried uninstalling Java completely and reinstalling it, but no luck. I still get the same message. I've also tried using Windows 7's compatability wizard to run it under XP. No luck there, either. :{
Of course just after I post that I found a fix. Hurrah! Well, I'll talk about it, since I know there are a lot of other people who have had this problem. It's all over Google.
So the problem is that Java 7 and Minecraft often do not get along well. This error is the result. Uninstalling Java 7 and installing Java 6 instead fixed it for me. A lot of other threads have said that you can also get it working by creating a .bat file and following some instructions. That didn't work for me, but Java 6 did.

Hah! you found one of the most common solutions in the thread I posted.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
