Well, what seems to help me is not playing in full screen mode. Other than that, you just have to deal with it. I have to play at 5-10 FPS and dream of the day I can afford a PC that doesn't suck.

Did that. I use optifine and it works but it STILL LAGS!!!!! I hate my laptop!
Wow. All I can say is make sure there are no other programs running at the same time as Minecraft, even a web browser (it makes a big difference). Other than that, clear up some hard disk space, or upgrade your RAM.

Try setting Graphics to 'Fast' and lowering your Render Distance in Video Settings.
