Ok, So today I bought minecraft. Followed instructions in email and when I click the download link (for windows) and open the file, it doesnt download but it opens the game up, I login and I can play. The thing is it isn't downloaded on my computer so if I want to play I have to open up the link in my email, click the supposedly download link, open file, and then play. Another problem I have is that when I am playing the game lags terribly, I can't even play the game because of the slowness and lagging. I have the latest version of java, so I know thats not it. PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Edit: The game is downloaded on my computer so I no longer need help with that, But what I DO NEED HELP WITH IS THE TERRIBLE LAGGING!!!
Your computer probably can't run the game. Blame Mojang for not putting a minimum system requirements anywhere.
Edit: Nevermind, here it is.
What is your system specifics, anyway?
Well my computer is an inspiron 1525 laptop, I actually before I bought the game returned my computer to factory default because it was slow. I know it has 4 GB of memory free and is powered by intel. It has the latest java and latest google chrome. Thats pretty much all I know, I dont know how to find the other stuff they are talking about...so what should I do?
Ah! i've had the same problem! i can't download it but if i click the link it'll open! it would be better if it could just download. does yours say "publisher unverified" or something like that? i think that's why mine won't down load but idk!
did you download the .exe or jar?
did you install java?
whats the error?
It is the .exe and its not really downloaded, I have to "download" the file each time I want to play, and I cant even play anyways because of the terrible lagging! I have the latest version of Java

It doesnt really say anything, I wish I could take a screenshot and put it on here, but I dont know how to do that!
Also, some computers have multiple graphics cards (mostly laptops). Make sure that you have the more powerful one on if this is the case. If these don't work, then you probably do not have a powerful enough machine to run minecraft. We can determine this from a full systems specifications list.
He has put together a good tutorial on improving performance. It covers the things Elystus stated, but with more detail, and a bunch of additional things to try.

Also, I moved this to Client Support.
How do I get the full specifications list for my laptop system; in this case a Dell Inspiron 1525

Retired StaffLog in to your account.
Right click on the link and choose 'Save link target as' or 'Save Link As' based on your browser.
Choose the location you want the file, and save.

Retired StaffThere are a few things I usually suggest when a client is lagging.
- Get a mod such as Optifine
- Allocate less ram to Minecraft (500mb)
- Update your LWJGL
