"sans-serif">Please help. Kids each received a Minecraft download card. Accounts set up and installed on two separate PC's. PCs are connected together by crossover ethernet, which works great in other multiplayer games. Neither computer has internet access. Firewalls are turned off. Both PC have malewarebytes free version that is not actively running and both also have Microsoft security essentials on them (active). Have also tried with that turned off. Both PC's running Windows XP SP3.
"sans-serif">We have tried to play multiplayer via the lan with no success. Here’s what’s been done so far. Java 7 installed (also tried Java 6), MC installed and run. Game works fine in single player offline mode. Start single player game on PC1. Open to lan. Open multiplayer on pc2. scans for lan and finds named game on pc1. highlight that game and hit “join server”. All we get is the message “connection lost end of stream.”"sans-serif">
"sans-serif">tried direct connect using pc1 ip address 192.168.0.1: xxxx. pc2 finds named game on pc1. highlight and attempt to join. get same message “connection lost end of stream.”"sans-serif">
"sans-serif"> tried “add server” using pc1 ip with :xxxx from found lan game and pc2 finds this also. With this method, the named game shows 5 green bars plus “1/8” if I hover mouse over this “2ms” shows. Highlight and hit “join server” same message “connection lost end of stream.”"sans-serif">
"sans-serif">We have also tried downloading the server exe from minecraft.net and ran that. when this is done, we “add server” using ip address of host comp followed by :xxxxx shown on host pc. The server shows up on both PC’s with 5 green bars and “0/20”. But, once again no connection on either PC with same message."sans-serif">
"sans-serif">I have hit the limit of my computer abilities and was hoping someone out there would be able to help me resolve this problem as the kids really want to play together in the same world (and remember they do not have internet access so they cannot do so online). Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone is able to provide.
Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately I tried this last night before your post. Negative results. Still getting the same "connection lost end of stream" message no matter what we do. Tried pc assigned IP address as well as self assigned. Have tried server properties as online mode "true" and "false" Have tried different ports. Have tried "adding server" and typing in address shown in server properties and also address shown when open single player to LAN. No matter what method we have tried the other computer sees the server and opened to LAN games, as it shows 5 green bars, but whenever we "join server" we get the same message "connection lost end of stream".
Also, when trying to use the server method the host computer can't join ans gets the same message when trying to join. While watching the server log, as soon as the host or other pc try to join the log shows that PC's IP address and "lost connection"
One thing I noticed that is different from the reply post is that our ipconfig does not show any IPV4. It only shows "IP Address" and "Subnet Mask"
Connection between PC's is good as we are currently able to play other multiplayer games over the crossover ethernet. Even tried having one of these up and running while trying the MC multiplayer with no luck.
