I recently got a new laptop that came with Windows 8. I ran minecraft on it and started to play, and everything works fine and smooth except my inventory. Everything seems to be buggy and it doesn't matter what mouse I use, so it is definitely the computer, not the mouse. When I click on an item or stack of items, it doesn't pick it up until I start to drag it. So the only way I can move anything is to drag it, and the same goes for splitting it in half using right click. Since the only way I can move anything is to drag, I can't even place one of the item using right click. This makes the game pretty much unplayable, or at least very very painful to play. Help!
Oh and also, the items stay still as I drag until I reach a certain point away from where I clicked where they then start to follow the mouse. The number of the items however, suddenly jumps up from the bottom right of the icon to in the middle of the item, and the entire icon hovers above my mouse.
The whole problem might not even be that complicated or even to do with Windows 8 at all, but if someone could help me out that would be great.
This should help you out. Windows 8 changes the default to be on touch screen mode. Go into your options and turn it off. Also, with my computer every time I clicked it would act as if I took my fingers off of any key I was currently pressing down. If you go into full screen mode it might solve that, it solved it for me.
I'm having the exact same problem in XP. Everything else is working fine. My cat was tromping about on my keyboard last night, so he may have done something but nothing in Controls seems to apply to this problem. Is it just a glitch? I've restarted my computer a couple times and it is still doing this. It just started happening in the middle of playing.
EDIT: Tried deleting option.txt after some more forum-searching/googling. Nothing happened. Halp.
EDIT: Figured out Touchscreen thing. The cat must have turned it on. I feel rather silly at the moment. Anyway, the problem is now fixed.
So to anyone encountering the same problem, make sure "Touch Screen Mode" is OFF in options.
