Before today, my laptop had 6GB of ram, and made a good 90-100 FPS on Minecraft. I recently installed 16GB of ram on my laptop, yet, the FPS has barely increased, more or less dropped to 60 average. I have checked my laptop's info, and it even says it has 16GB of memory. Why hasn't my FPS increased, or, even more, why has it dropped?
EDIT: To clarify, the rest of my laptop's performance and speed has pretty evidently increased majorly. Meaning the laptop itself has recieved the new RAM and is definitely using it.

Your laptop is only going to use as much RAM as it needs, giving it more won't do much.
Think of it like this: You have a kid who went trick or treating. He's only allowed 6 pieces of candy a night. You can fill his bag with pounds of candy, but he's still only allowed to eat 6 pieces per night. Giving him more won't allow him to consume more.
In this case, giving your computer more RAM won't necessarily make it faster. Try using Optifine, or Allocating more RAM for minecraft.

While this explains the lack of increase, this does not explain the decrease.
Did you have vsync on and balanced, turn off vsync and set to max fps for greater speed, minecraft can effectivily can reduce the ram used because of fps limits. Hope this helps

Already have it set to what I always have it set to.
Far, Fancy, Smooth Lighting, Max FPS, Vsync off (I get better FPS that way), OpenGL Advanced off.

Retired StaffMost of these do not work, as they are for windows and I run Linux.
