Ive given 6 of the 8 gig on my pc to java. and still it runs out of mem. i have every sound turned off. all the settins are to the lowerst setting or fastest.

Yes i rebooted my system.
yes. it still happens.
yes I uninstalled java, rebooted, install, rebooted.
yes. it still happens.
yes. I unistalled MC, reboot, install mc, rebooted.
yes. it still happens.
I would check here it a common list of troubleshooting you can do for crashes. I know you have tried the beginning things but then it gets into things you did not mention you tried. You can also try here it is a compiled list of all of the support threads that get used a lot and help people =)
If your operating system is 64 bit, you may need to install Java 64 bit. If you don't you often get out of memory crashes.
Giving more than 3 GB of RAM to MC/Java is a waste. Try allocating 2 GB. Also, the syntax for -Xms etc is exact. If you have a capital letter in there (other than the first X) then the allocation won't work.
How are you allocating RAM?
