Alright guys, I have searched for a way to resolve this but given limited time frames with internet I'm gonna ask here. Apologies in advance but the only topic I saw with the problem and hardware mirroring mine didn't include the solution just that the user was able to fix it.
Please read all info before jumping to a conclusion and replying. I'd rather silence than false information.
Trying to run minecraft on a pc that was given to me as a present.
I meet all hardware requirements except in the video card department.
I'm a software geek but hardware is my weakness.
Your first response is going to involve me updating drivers.
The issue is that the pc in question is not connected to the internet and transferring data to the pc is a nightmare process that I will avoid at all costs (dont ask why, just accept it.)
In other posts I have seen users have success with my card (ATI Radeon xpress 1100, integrated ofc) but when I attempt to run I am getting the openGL error.
I have tried multiple fixes and even an attempt to update the drivers (though I'm not sure how well that went considering the PC is not on the internet).
I had this issue on a similar machine where again I was unable to easily update drivers and found a workaround that involved changing the .exe to .jar and adding options to bypass.)
Multiple part question:
Can you confirm this driver will in fact support minecraft 1.4.6
Does anyone have the options I used? (I can't remember but think it was -java -jxm800m but am unsure as this didn't help)
Is there another work around I am missing?
Should a driver update have worked? If so can someone help link the proper driver I will need for ease.
tl:dr
ATI Radeon xpress 1100
openGL error
No internet
Prefer fix not requiring download/install

Hi there! Thanks for a detailed report, it really helps.
Well, with older computers it starts to get hard to tell what to do. If minecraft is giving you an OpenGL error, try turning off Advanced OpenGL in the minecraft "Options.txt" file, located in the root folder of /.minecraft. Also make sure to change the graphics quality from fancy to fast, and the render distanace to low. (Just for diagnostic reasons)
If it's giving you an OpenGL error, i assume it is installed correctly, but just can't start or intialize openGL
I'll try to disable in the options.txt but keep in mind the openGL prevents MC from loading past the intital screen so I can alter in game graphics until I'm loaded.
I'll post with results so that we can continue to troubleshoot or in case another user has a similar issue and needs help.
Thx 4 reading.
