When I started playing Minecraft in around March I was able to play without any problems. Now when I play Minecraft it keeps on crashing every 5-15 mins when playing on a server (I am not sure whether this applies to single-player). This has been going on for about a week and it is really getting annoying. HELP!!!

That is quite easily found; it is an OutOfMemory error.
Java Runtime does not have enough memory to keep Minecraft afloat on your computer.
Have you considered using a .bat to assign Minecraft more RAM?

Can you explain further? Also its happening more frequently.

Minecraft needs RAM to store little tidbits of information. When it can't do that it crashes.
Use this tutorial to give minecraft some more ram. I suggest 1024MB.
Right here. The most RAM I've ever needed to use for MC is 1536mb. Sphax 512x and mods. Only lag was caused by GPU slightly struggling with 1920x1080 at 512x res.
As I've posted a billion times, it all depends on your system and configuration, not to mention what other programs are running. But the canned response that less RAM will ALWAYS improve performance -- and the chastising of people who say otherwise -- is a bit irritating.
If it works for you, fine. But for many people, a bump up to 1 - 2 GB assigned will result in cooler, faster operation. I've posted the test results, and challenged anyone to post to the contrary, and (surprise) no one seems to be able to do that. All we get is personal anecdotes.
There's no magic bullet, and no perfect method. It's all a balancing game. But some of the moderators around here need to stop telling folks that increasing RAM never works, because (as we've just seen) it's utter nonsense.

Retired StaffHappy Minecrafting!
There you go... more proof that adding a little RAM fixes problems.
Where's HidingintheLight's canned "use less RAM" response now?
