Good evening gentleman, I require your assistance on some technical issue today. I would like to be able to run minecraft on my net-book, unfortunately I an getting the infamous "Bad video card drivers!" error. It would seem that the Minecraft launcher thinks that my video card cannot handle Minecraft, but this is wrong. I was able to get Minecraft to run by bypassing the launcher using MCPatcher, and then using "Test Minecraft". It actually ran quite well, considering. So I know that my video card can run Minecraft, but why is the launcher giving me this error. I have updated my video card drivers and they are all current. Does anyone know why this is happening. Any and all input is appreciated. Thank you.

I noted you have windows XP, it might be time to upgrade as the old OS's are starting to become less supported.
Also, make sure you have the right version of java:
Operating System: Windows XP (x86) version 5.1
Java Version: 1.6.0_35, Sun Microsystems Inc.
Java VM Version: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (mixed mode), Sun Microsystems Inc.
I too am getting the "Bad Video Card" error w/ 1.4.6. The only thing that changed was minecraft, as my system was running 1.4.5 reasonably well (yes, I had to reduce my "horizon" to "short"). Now all I get is this.... How do I downgrade to 1.4.5 so it once again works??

You need to update your video card drivers, or update Windows.
You can also install Ubuntu, if you cannot afford Windows.
So, you are saying that 1.4.6 uses a feature of the OpenGL API that was not used in 1.4.5? Okay, I grok that. Surprised me when it first went boom, and it's impractical for me to change OS'es at this time. Guess I'll hope that Christmas brings a newer PC (yeah, it's old - Pentium D).
Thanks for the information... Now off to search for alternate universes :-)
