My minecraft is modded only with modloader and optifine so its not really vanilla, but this happens even when I don't use them. The problem I am having on servers is that it will be really laggy and then I'll get the dirt screen and it will say:
Connection Lost
Internal exception: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out
I have a feeling this may have something to do with my internet connection but I'm not 100% and really want to make sure this isn't some java error or anything else
My specs are windows 8 64bit
AMD FX 4170 quad core processor
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti
At first I had both 32 and 64 Java installed and then read that having both could screw it up so I went to only 64 and that has not helped.

It is your internet connection. Make sure that you have a good wireless connection if you are using wifi.
Does this happen on all the servers you play on?
Please take a Speedtest and tell me the results, if you could.

Your internet connection is a little slow. When your connection is slow, sometimes it disconnects you from the server. Can you try playing at a friends house, and seeing if it happens?
If it kicks you again, it's like a bad connection on the servers end.

The thing is I go to play on my laptop where my fps is like 10 and I have absolutely no problems with the connection. I think I'll probably just have to search for an extra long ethernet cable to hook up direct to the box.
