Hey, my friends and family got me into playing minecraft, bought the full version and everything. I've been playing on my own for a little while, and now I want to play on a server they have set up. The only problem is, I've already upgraded to 1.4.4, but their server is still on 1.4.2, and they don't look like they're going to upgrade it anytime soon.
I was wondering if anyone knows of any legitimate sources to find older versions (namely 1.4.2) of minecraft for mac? Do the good people of Mojang keep a back log of version downloads maybe?
Thanks!
PS: Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I didn't know where else to ask.
one thing to note with mcnostalgia is that if you decide to use the current version you will have to update, and then to go back you will need to run the app again to drop down, and running a new map on an old version can cause issue.
you may want to try multimc, this has mcnostalgia built in anf you can create multiple instances to use, so if you feel like playing 1.4.5 you run that one, if you want to run beta 1.2 then you run that one, much easier, and because they each use a folder you won't go opening a map with the wrong version
Downgrading can be risky when coming to loading up past singleplayer worlds, that's what Mojang said. I wouldn't downgrade just because a server is outdated.
Yes, I'm sure trying to run a 1.4.5 world on a version downgraded to 1.4.2 would be a bad idea, but I will probably look into multimc that I can I have the most recent version for SP worlds and still be able to access the server that the rest of my family plays on. Thanks so much for the tips Webrosc - I just hope they have a version of multimc for mac...
Update: I checked it out, and sure enough they have versions for windows, linux and mac. Downloaded the app and it worked perfectly right out of the box! Took a couple updates before I could get the downgrade option to work correctly, but I got it the way I wanted without too much heartache. Definitely worth it. Thanks again for the link, Webrosc!
